Wenda James-Rowe: Gok for Tu now we can all get Gok'd!

He’s the flamboyant fashion stylist famous for his friendly approach and love of the female form. But while he has his finger on the pulse as far as styling is concerned, Gok Wan has never designed his own collection – until now.

Ever the champion of affordable fashion and the king or rather queen of the capsule wardrobe, the television makeover star is to make his design debut at Sainsbury’s, creating a capsule collection for the store’s Tu range.

We’ve seen many successful high street stores collaborate with celebrities and stylists to promote their ranges, such as Asda who launched a range with Barbara Hulanicki from the Biba label this summer.

The How To Look Good Naked star is fresh from previewing his ‘Gok for Tu’ range, showcasing the 13-piece collection all designed with shape enhancing properties – great news if you’re curvy – which will launch in 200 of Sainsbury’s stores in autumn.

The Wan-inspired women’s clothing range indicates a concerted effort by the supermarket to boost revenues outside its core food offering.

Sainsbury’s Tu, which launched in 2004, trebled its market share between 2005 and 2010 to almost 3% of the clothing market by volume, according to research from Verdict, placing it in the top 10 UK clothing retailers.

The collection, which hits stores on Thursday, October 6, reflects Gok’s philosophy of making women feel confident, stylish and positive about their bodies, whatever their budget, size or shape.

Gok for TU is a capsule collection that cleverly combines key basics with strong statement pieces. Prices range from £20 to £45, with colour palettes reflecting the autumn season – rich red, teal and terracotta are mixed with statement black and two signature prints, Cherry Blossom and Oriental Floral, decorate garments inside and out.

Speaking at the preview, Gok Wan said: “I’m so unbelievably excited to reveal further details about my debut for Sainsbury’s.

“With these clothes, I want women to flirt, flaunt and celebrate their curves.

“I’ve spent the last few months working through every detail and believe we’ve delivered attainable and affordable design like never before.”

Geraldine Higgins, head of womenswear buying at Sainsbury’s, added: “Since announcing our partnership with Gok earlier this year we’ve been overwhelmed with positive reactions from our customers and colleagues.

“Everyone can now put Thursday, October 6, in their diary to get Gok’d!”

Girls how excited are we? Autumn can’t come quick enough!
