The Brogue is Back
Over the past couple years, men's fashion has inspired the womenswear world, and it was inevitable that they would eventually trickle into footwear. One of the hottest trends right now is the oxford heel. Although you can see the menswear influence, they come in a variety of heel heights which can immediately transform a conservative shoe into something sexy and appealing. However, how do you wear flat mens-inspired shoes? This can be quite a tricky trend, but with the right styling, anyone can pull this look off!
- Cuff your jeans. Cuffing the pantlegs not only allow you to show off the shoe itself, but also, if shows off your ankles, which gives it a more feminine appeal. Not doing so can make your feet appear a bit clownish. Here, Sienna Miller keeps her overall outfit simple, and adds that surprising element with her white brogues.
- Brogues also look great with shorter dresses. Selma Blair does it right by pairing cream coloured ones with a gray dress. The colour palette is neutral and cool, but makes her appear effortless and sophisticated. Alexa Chung pulls takes a more funky approach with knee high socks, black dress, and plaid coat.
- Agyness Deyne has been seen wearing brogues before they were deemed “cool” and other British girls such as Emma Watson and Sienna Miller have been seen wearing these shoes recently.
- Brogue shoes can complement a preppy look or add contrast to an ultra cute girlie ensemble. The two-tone ones are the most appealing.
I think by Autumn the brogue will be the shoe of the season and will be found across the high street. Top Shop has a fantastic range available now and Vivaladiva which is an online store has the most extensive range I have seen and has many variations on the classic brogue design. So girls if you are not sure if this is the shoe for you read on and you may just change your mind.
Women's brogue shoes
The classic design
Very much the original design, brogue shoes typically have a flat design and are very reminiscent of the traditional brogues, which is what makes them so utterly versatile. Wear flat ladies’ brogues with rolled up jeans for a fashionable look or with a floral dress for an individual style, remember, brogue shoes look best with bare ankles too.
High heel brogues
A glamorous twist
Combining the quirkiness of the traditional women's brogue shoes with the glamour of a high heel, high heel brogues come in a variety of styles including shoe boots, ankle boots and court shoes all with a brogue design. Whether patent or leather, black or brown, high heel brogues look fabulous with skinny jeans, leggings and dresses.
Brogue ankle boots
Flat and high heeled
They’re ever so popular right now and when you add the ladies' brogues design to an ankle boot you can’t go wrong, Choose patent, leather or suede designs in all kinds of colours like black, brown and beige, and wear with skinny jeans or leggings for an up-to-date look. You will find brogue ankle boots in high heel and flat designs, ideal for any occasion and outfit.
A casual choice
If you like the women's brogues look but don’t feel it suits your laidback styles, you’ll love brogue pumps that have casual and relaxed feel about them. Mixing together the comfort of a pump with the design of ladies' brogues, they have a unique and individual style that really appeals if you love an informal look to wear with jeans or skirts for spring into summer.
