Smart dresses for between seasons
Why is it that we Brits are never happy with the weather? It’s always too hot or too cold!
But look on the bright side. We get guaranteed seasons, which means we often know exactly what our staple capsule wardrobes should contain throughout the year. Dresses, skirts, and sandals come out during spring/summer time and jackets, knitwear and boots come to the surface of our wardrobes in the colder months.
The challenge therefore is knowing what to wear in transeasonal weather. What’s going on, you may ask, with the weather? Getting dressed when the temperature changes multiple times a day can be tricky, so here’s how to get the whole transeasonal look right.
Key pieces that are great for transeasonal fashion:
They’re light enough to handle any warm weather or humidity and they tend to come in wind proof material to handle the wind. Parkers are also very trendy and come in various designs for every shopper. New Look, Miss Selfridge and Topshop currently have great ranges.
Swap coats for trenches
Pack away your heavy coats and invest in a light trench – it will be your all-weather saviour. It will have all the tailoring of your favourite winter coat without the extra weight. Slip it on over a dress or jeans and a T-shirt for an instantly pulled-together look. Long or short, they’re flexible and can be dressed up or down. This is a piece that is essential for every capsule wardrobe.
They protect you and can add personality to your outfit if you go for a coloured or printed style. Say goodbye to 100 denier opaques and go for a sheer denier to show off your legs.
They certainly are the shoe of the moment and are here to stay for a few seasons yet. They can be worn all year round and are casual and comfy. They’re also great for creating a cool, trendy look. Wear with a dress to create a really funky contrast.
Cardigans are an essential for every wardrobe and they are excellent for the transeasonal period. A colourful cardi keeps us connected to the warmer, brighter seasons. H&M, Zara and Esprit will supply you with this key piece.
Swap dark for light
Cream, pale grey and tan are great colour options for this time of year. The key to comfort is layering, so choose pieces that you can peel off and on. Try switching a black blazer for a neutral tone and layer it over a sleeveless shift or silk blouse to instantly freshen your outfit.
Swap boots for sandals
As spring rapidly approaches, it’s time to swap heavier styles of boots for peep-toe pumps or flats. This means a pedicure. You can update your entire look with one of summers’ hottest nail polish shades – neon yellow or pink, pale grey or creamy coffee.
